WHAT WE BELIVE IN?

Education

An interactive, structured (life-long?) process which facilitates the acquisition and exchange of knowledge, skills and values. (vertical/horizontal?) A quality and accessible education which promotes critical thinking is essential for building and maintaining an open, democratic society.

Inclusive Education

Education within an open and safe environment, based on a set of principles, values and practices which ensure equal rights and opportunities. In order to be inclusive, education should be accessible to all children regardless of gender, ethnicity, social or developmental issues. Individual differences are valued and nurtured in a climate which embraces diversity and principles of social justice. It stems from the realization that when the best interests of each child are promoted by the entire school community, education strongly contributes to social cohesion, belonging, and active participation in learning.

Participatory Policy-Making

An approach in which the process of policy-making stops being the prerogative of the state apparatus and institutions. Instead, it becomes the product of collective input from various actors including state institutions, scientists and analysts, citizens, civil society organizations and international organizations, acknowledging different opinions and approaches and ultimately providing policies which are more sustainable, legitimate, rounded and accepted by the society.

Education for Sustainability

A holistic take on local and global environmental, social and economic issues which enables learners (participants? Stakeholders?) to envision change by studying the root causes of current development, engage with present injustices and explore alternative futures. Ultimately, it results in a transformation of individuals, teaching practices and formal education systems equipping them with the tools necessary to practice and promote sustainable living.

Future Thinking

The ability and inclination to constructively reflect on a range of scenarios that might play out in the next few decades in various aspects of life. Future thinking facilitates informed and far-sighted shaping of policies and assessment of alternatives, and, in doing so, prepares us for a sustainable future beyond the next election or investment cycle.
