Lead for EcoJustice: Transforming School Cultures

The Lead for EcoJustice, led by the Network of Education Policy Centers, aligns with the call of many educational practitioners and scholars to transform schools toward an appreciation of nature, justice and sustainability. The program aims to improve schools’ processes and procedures according to ecojustice education and positively influence the present and future collective well-being of human and non-human beings, offering hope and motivation for a sustainable future.  Thus,  by transforming school culture, ‘Lead for Ecojustice’ project advocates for a more sustainable and eco-justice approach to education.

The project’s activities for building the capacity of school leaders to create a school culture that affects all aspects of the school, setting in motion the school’s capacity to transform towards a more sustainable and eco-just future involve:

  • Defining key school leaders’ competencies for implementing ecojustice education
  • Developing the ‘Lead for Eco Justice’ program for school leadership teams
  • Lead for Eco Justice’ education for school leadership teams in Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Serbia
  • Development and implementation of ‘Ready for ecojustice’ the self-assessment tool for schools
  • Capacity building for Partner organizations trough Ecojustice mutual learning events and Training of trainers.
  • Publishing capacity building resources for school leaders (4 Edu focus articles, 4Edu focus video lectures/webinars, RSA video animation)
  • Organizing National ecojustice events in Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Serbia
  • Organizing final international conference.

As a research institute, we gained invaluable insights through mutual learning events that explored global Ecojustice ideas and practices. These experiences enhanced our experts’ knowledge, attitudes, and skills in sustainability while deepening our understanding of the interconnectedness between sustainability and environmental protection. This experience not only broadened our perspective but also empowered us to advocate for the integration of Ecojustice principles into education and research.
